The Meek One

"It was simply because with me it had to be honest: to love meant to love completely."

Penguin Little Black Classics No. 44
Published in Russia in 1876. Written by Fyodor Dostoyevsky. Translated by Ronald Meyer.

A peculiar story about a middle-aged officer turned pawnbroker who married a lady merely half his age. A subtle requiem of his wife's life with him and how remorseful he became being strangers to each other for the longest time. Being a man of pride, he was unable to express and say how he truly felt about her through out their relationship, only to find out that he's madly in love with her at an unlikely time of their life.

Ponder on:

His thoughts, don't they remind you of yourself? How mature enough you think you are, when the truth is, you're playing victim to naivety.
